About Chico Tote Rentals
We are a small, locally owned business in Chico, California. We rent reusable moving boxes, deliver them to your door, and collect them when you are finished. That is the whole service.
What we actually do
We are not a moving company. We do not carry your furniture or drive your things to the new house. We bring the boxes, and you or your movers do the rest. Keeping to one job is why the price is a flat number rather than an estimate.
The boxes are heavy-duty plastic totes with attached lids, 27 by 17 by 12 inches and 2.5 cubic feet each, which is about what a large cardboard box holds. They stack 5 high without crushing, which cardboard cannot claim, and they are washed and inspected between every rental.
Where we go
Delivery and collection are free in Chico, Durham, Paradise, and we deliver to 34 towns in total across Butte, Glenn, and Tehama counties for a per-trip fee. It is a deliberate radius. Beyond about 30 miles the driving costs more than the rental is worth, and we would rather say so than quote you something silly. See the full delivery area.
How we try to be straight with people
The price you see is the price. Delivery, collection, and a tote dolly are in every package, and any distance fee is shown at checkout before you pay rather than after.
Cancelling is free up to 48 hours before delivery, and 50% is refunded inside that window before the truck goes out. A tote that does not come back is $25, which is what it costs us to replace, not a penalty. All of it is written down in the rental agreement rather than left to be discovered.
We also tell people when renting is the wrong answer. If you are moving out of the area, buy cardboard. Our guide to getting moving boxes in Chico covers the free and cheap routes as well as ours.
The business
